Brazil will showcase not just one but two historic events

June 5, 2014 0 Comments

The World Cup kick off on the 12th of June in Sao Paulo, Brazil will showcase not one but two historic events. As well as the launch of the famous international football contest, this event is providing an opportunity to showcase cutting edge brain research technology which may one day transform the lives of millions of people.

This World Cup ‘curtain raiser’ will allow the public to see the first demonstration of a ‘ mind controlled ‘ exoskeleton that enables a person with paralysis to walk.

In the February edition of National Geographic an article entitled ‘Voyage Into the Brain’ describes how Miguel Nicolelis at Duke University has been experimenting with exoskeletons that strap onto the body. Signals from the brain control each limb. All going well it is planned that a paraplegic wearing a simpler version of the device will deliver the opening kick at the 2014 World Cup.

The setup will include a specially adapted ActiCAP from Brain Products GmbH
